These young ladies snagged first-place awards at the Logan County Fair Style Review Tuesday, July 14, and will represent the county 4-H clubs in numerous categories. Proving skills like sewing and quilting never go out of fashion, 4-H girls of all ages showed off their projects at the Logan County Fair Style Review.
After walking the runway, many walked away with top awards and a chance to represent Logan County at the Ohio State Fair (OSF).
For her last sewing project in 4-H, Gillian Knight chose to make an embroidered, fur-lined, off-white wool coat that so impressed the judges she earned numerous top awards like Best Overall Total Look, the Heritage Family 4-H Clothing Award, and the Diane Jess Wool Award. She will serve as the Logan County delegate in the Outerwear for Anywhere OSF competition.
“I’m part of the Willing Workers 4-H Club,” Gillian said, “and I’ve been sewing for probably 11 years now.” She did all the embroidery, including “a cute little touch” of embroidering her initials on the inside panel.
All things considered, it took Gillian about 50 hours to complete the coat. And while not part of the project, she made a plaid skirt to go with it.
She considers this her favorite of all her sewing projects, adding, “I’m very happy.”

Gillian plans to start her freshman year at The Ohio State University in the fall with an undecided major focused on media.
Another big winner of the night was Carly Strayer who won Best Overall Constructed Garment and Master Clothing Educators of Ohio Senior Award (ages 16 and up). She’s the Dress-Up Outfit: Daywear and Em*bel*ish A 4-H Guide to Wearable Art delegate to the state fair.
Both Gillian and Carly also received the Overall Interview Award for giving an “exceptional oral interview.” They each received a goodie bag of sewing supplies.
Other top award winners Tuesday night were Elayna Hoover, Master Clothing Educators of Ohio Junior Award (ages 12-15); Emily Adams, Ohio 4-H Fashion Revue Award; Delia Rose, Rising Star (ages 8-11); and Lila Adams, Ohio 4-H Consumer Clothing Award.
This year’s Style Review also allowed 4-Hers to show off their quilting skills, often crediting a grandmother or even great-grandmother for help or inspiration.
