West Liberty-Salem needed extra time Friday night, but the Tigers found a way to finish the job.

WLS defeated Fairbanks 33-27 in double overtime, earning its third consecutive victory and improving to 3-2 on the season.

The Tigers leaned heavily on their ground game throughout the night, with Silas Krabill leading the charge. Krabill carried the ball 17 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns, averaging more than eight yards per carry.

Zade Bieleski also found the end zone on the ground, giving the Tigers another important weapon in their rushing attack.

While the offense provided its share of production, the WLS defense delivered two of the game's biggest plays.

Grant Krabill and Sam Kidd each returned interceptions for touchdowns, giving the Tigers a pair of defensive scores and providing crucial points in a game that ultimately required two overtime periods.

Fairbanks continued to battle throughout the night, scoring 27 points — its highest scoring total of the season — but WLS ultimately made the plays it needed in the extra periods to escape with the victory.

The victory gives the Tigers three straight wins after opening the season 0-2. During that three-game winning streak, WLS has scored at least 31 points in every game, including wins over Cedarville and Greenon before Friday's overtime thriller.

Now 3-2, the Tigers will return home to Tiger Stadium next Friday when they welcome the Northeastern Jets for their next matchup.

After surviving a back-and-forth battle on the road, West Liberty-Salem will look to carry its momentum back home as it continues its push through the second half of the season.
