Triad High School competed in the Urbana High School Invitational, highlighted by multiple event victories, podium finishes and strong relay showings. The meet featured teams from as far as Columbus.
One of the meet’s standout performances came in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles, where freshman Avery Eaton claimed first place with a time of 17.44, earning a full 10 team points and setting the tone for Triad’s hurdle strength.
That success carried over to the boys’ side, where De’Von Minor dominated the Boys 110 Meter Hurdles, winning the event in 17.63. Minor later doubled back in the Boys Long Jump, producing one of Triad’s biggest field performances by winning the event with a jump of 18-08.50, another 10-point effort that showcased his versatility and explosiveness.
Triad’s relay squads were equally as strong. The Boys 4x800 Meter Relay ran well with a strong second-place finish in 9:23.72. The sprint relays followed suit, with the Girls 4x200 Relay placing third (1:59.17) and the Boys 4x200 Relay earning another third-place finish in 1:42.80. The Girls 4x100 Meter Relay blitzed their way to the podium, where Triad finished second overall in 54.98, narrowly trailing the winning squad while securing eight points in the event.
In individual track events, Triad athletes finished in strong placings.
Aubrey Johnson placed third in the Girls 1600 Meter Run with a time of 6:16.02, then followed up later with a fourth-place finish in the Girls 3200 Meter Run, clocking 14:08.38.
On the boys’ side, Cohen Millice ran 2:20.68 for sixth place in the Boys 800 Meter Run and added points in the Boys High Jump, where he cleared 5-06 for third place.
Field events were a mainstay of success for the girls. In the Girls High Jump, Kimber Instine finished second with a clearance of 4-08, while Brooklynn Melidor and Melissa Graham both scored in the Girls Long Jump, finishing third (13-10.50) and fourth (13-10.00) respectively. Instine also placed sixth in the Girls 200 Meter Dash at 30.06.
Distance depth rounded out Triad’s day, with athletes placing in the Boys 1600, 800, and 3200. Noah Humphrey scored in the Boys 3200, finishing 5th in 12:49.81, while Henry Beaverson placed sixth in the Boys 1600 Meter Run at 5:21.76.
Triad track will be back in action Monday, April 6, at Riverside in DeGraff.
