West Liberty-Salem Tigers seniors J.J. Johnson and Isaac Sertell have both been named to the All-Ohio Baseball teams for their outstanding performances this past season.
Johnson earned the program’s highest distinction, being selected as a Second Team All-Ohio honoree. His senior season capped off an impressive career in the orange and black.
A versatile utility player, Johnson racked up numerous accolades throughout the season. At the plate, he was one of the most dangerous hitters in the Ohio Heritage Conference, posting a .451 batting average with 26 RBIs. He also recorded 10 extra-base hits, including two home runs, across just 23 games—an exceptionally efficient campaign.
Perhaps Johnson’s most memorable performance came in his final game as a Tiger, a state tournament loss to Indian Lake. In that contest, he went 3-for-4 with three doubles, showcasing his offensive prowess on the big stage.
Sertell earned All-Ohio Honorable Mention recognition after an outstanding season as both a pitcher and leadoff hitter. He consistently sparked the Tigers’ offense from the top of the lineup.
At the plate, Sertell ranked second in the conference with an impressive .492 batting average. He was just as dominant on the mound, finishing with a 1.40 ERA—good for fifth-best in the conference.
Known for his strong approach at the plate, Sertell also demonstrated excellent plate discipline, drawing 23 walks during the season. He added two home runs and three triples to round out his offensive production.
Both players played pivotal roles in the Tigers’ success this season and have left a lasting mark on the program.
Following graduation, Sertell will continue his baseball career at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Johnson will attend Southern Maine Community College in Portland, Maine, where he plans to play baseball while pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
Congratulations to both players for making the most of their senior seasons.
