Valerie K. VanGundy, 86, of Jackson Center, OH, formerly of Lakeview, OH, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 24, 2026. Valerie was born on April 26, 1940 in Bellefontaine, OH, the daughter of the late Carey E. and Betty J (Smith) Snapp. Valerie married Dale A. VanGundy on September 20, 1959 at Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, OH, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2021. She is also preceded in death by a son, Brian VanGundy; grandson, Colton Park; son-in-law, Robin Park; sister-in-law, Joyce Snapp; and father and mother-in-law, Lee and Ersa VanGundy. Valerie is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Steve Fridley) Park of Lakeview, and Gina (Aaron) Jenkins of Villa Rica, GA; four grandchildren, Justin (Miranda) Jenkins, Dylan (Brittany) Jenkins, Hannah Park, and Nathon Wilson; six great grandchildren, Alithia, Elaina, Delilah, Historia, Logan, and Pryce; two brothers, Errol D. (Barbara) Snapp of Lewistown, OH, and Kerry L. (Denise) Snapp of DeGraff, OH; beloved friend and neighbor, Sharon Masarik; several nieces and nephews; and her church family whom she dearly cherished. Valerie was a 1958 graduate of Stokes Local School and graduated from Northwestern Business College in 1959. Valerie was a lifelong member of Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, OH, where she played organ and piano for over 50 years. An extremely skilled musician, Valerie would move a crowd when she played. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, working puzzles, and watching Fox News, and could not wait until fall so she could watch her Ohio State Buckeyes play football. Valerie looked forward to hosting Tuesday night dinner parties at her home. Valerie was a devoted Christian who was an inspiration to others by her example. She also had a strong love for her country and never took her freedoms for granted. Second only to her Lord and Savior was her love for her family, and treasured the roles of wife, mother, grams, and grandma great. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm, Monday, August 31, 2026, at Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, with visitation from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Gutman, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Valerie’s memory to Grace Chapel Gals. Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, OH.
