West Liberty-Salem’s cross-country program added another chapter to its storied history of success as the Ohio Heritage Conference recognized several Tigers for their performances during the 2026 season.

Leading the way was junior Asher Cole, who earned OHC Boys Runner of the Year honors after capturing the individual conference championship. Cole’s recognition highlighted another impressive campaign for a West Liberty-Salem program that continues to establish itself among the area’s premier distance-running teams.

Cole dashed his way to an OHC individual title, showcasing the speed and endurance that have made him the conference’s top runner.

The Tigers’ success extended well beyond their individual leader, as both the boys and girls teams continued their remarkable runs of conference dominance.

The West Liberty-Salem boys captured their sixth consecutive OHC championship, their 16th conference title in the past 18 seasons and the 36th overall in program history. The Tigers finished with 26 points, well ahead of runner-up Cedarville’s 42, further demonstrating the depth and consistency that have become hallmarks of the program.

The girls team added to that legacy by claiming its 13th consecutive OHC championship, finishing with 45 points to secure another conference crown.

Both teams’ continued success reflects the commitment, preparation and competitive culture that have sustained West Liberty-Salem cross-country for generations.

On the boys side, Cole was joined on the first team by Brayan Gullett, who finished second overall, along with Zeke Longshore, who placed fifth, and Eric Hoover, who finished eighth.

The Tigers also received three second-team selections. Zeke Lauck finished 10th, Gauge Lee placed 12th and Zeke Sidders took 15th while recording a personal-best performance.

The depth of the boys lineup played a significant role in securing another conference championship. With runners consistently finishing near the front of the field, West Liberty-Salem once again demonstrated its ability to compete as a complete team rather than relying on a single standout performance.

The girls team also delivered a strong showing, placing four runners on the all-conference teams.

Addi Wallen finished fourth overall, while Isla Leichty placed fifth to earn first-team recognition. Elin Leichty finished ninth and Elia Matthews placed 11th, earning second-team honors.

Their performances helped the Tigers maintain their position atop the conference standings and extend one of the most impressive championship streaks in the OHC.

West Liberty-Salem’s accomplishments this fall are part of a broader tradition of distance-running excellence. The boys program’s 36 conference championships and six consecutive titles underscore its sustained success, while the girls’ 13-year championship streak reflects an equally impressive standard of consistency.

With Cole earning the conference’s top individual honor and numerous teammates joining him among the all-conference selections, the Tigers have once again demonstrated the strength of their program.

For West Liberty-Salem, the latest round of honors represents more than individual achievement. It is another reminder of a program built on teamwork, dedication and a longstanding commitment to competing at the highest level.

As the postseason continues, the Tigers will look to carry that momentum forward while adding to a legacy that has made West Liberty-Salem a perennial contender in Ohio high school cross-country.
