WEST LIBERTY— West Liberty-Salem Schools has appointed Sean King as the new head coach of the varsity boys basketball program for the 2026-27 season.
King brings extensive coaching experience and a strong record of success to the program. During his tenure at West Liberty-Salem High School, he led the Tigers to two Ohio Heritage Conference championships and a district runner-up finish.
A product of Tiger basketball, King previously served as a youth coach and coach. School officials said his vision for the program focuses on maintaining a championship culture while emphasizing the development of student-athletes through strong relationships and clearly defined values.
“My goal is to create a transformational program rather than a transactional one,” King said. “We want our players to focus on excellence over success by emphasizing process-based goals, accountability and the values that have made Tiger Basketball special.”
King said the program will be built on the principles of passion, unity, toughness and thankfulness. He also plans to strengthen connections among players, coaches and the community while creating opportunities for athletes to pursue individual growth within the team environment.
In addition to leading the varsity program, King plans to expand youth outreach efforts and develop the next generation of Tiger basketball players. Proposed initiatives include youth camps, youth leagues, and other opportunities for younger athletes to interact with current student-athletes.
School administrators praised King’s leadership qualities and commitment to the district.
“We are excited to have Sean lead our program,” said Athletic Director Morgan Sullivan. “His knowledge of Tiger Basketball, commitment to our student-athletes and passion for developing young men make him the right person to continue the tradition of excellence our community expects.”
King will assume his new role ahead of the 2026-27 basketball season.
