Apple introduced its first foldable iPhone Sept. 9, leading a fall product lineup that also includes upgraded iPhone cameras, new Apple Watches and lower-priced access to noise-canceling AirPods.
The new iPhone Duo opens to reveal a 7.6-inch interior display, giving users more room for reading, watching videos, gaming and working across applications.
Apple is positioning the device as a way to bring some of the versatility of an iPad to a phone that folds shut. That flexibility comes at a premium: U.S. pricing starts at $1,999. Preorders begin Oct. 16, with availability scheduled for Oct. 23, according to Apple’s iPhone Duo announcement.
For customers interested in a conventional smartphone, Apple also announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Photography is a central focus, with a new 48-megapixel main camera featuring a variable aperture. The mechanism changes the opening that admits light, giving photographers greater control over low-light pictures and how much of a scene stays in focus.
The Pro models also introduce Apple Reference Image, an optional feature that preserves a verifiable camera record for comparison with edited photographs.
Apple says the tool can help photographers and viewers determine whether an image has been changed. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both are scheduled to reach stores Sept. 18.
Apple’s latest earbuds bring active noise cancellation to the $129 AirPods 5. The technology reduces surrounding noise while listeners hear music, podcasts or other audio. A $149 version adds a wireless charging case, longer battery life and volume controls operated by swiping the earbud stem.
Both versions arrive Sept. 18, and supported configurations offer Live Translation to help users communicate across languages.
The company also expanded its watch lineup with Apple Watch Series 12, starting at $399, and Apple Watch Ultra 4, starting at $799. Both are scheduled for availability Sept. 18.
The Ultra model adds updated heart sensors and a readiness score that uses activity, sleep and other measurements to help users assess their daily capacity for exercise. Apple says it delivers up to 50 hours of battery life during everyday use.
Software changes accompany the hardware. Apple says its more conversational Siri AI will begin rolling out in beta with iOS 27 on Sept. 14, initially in English on supported devices. The assistant is designed to draw on information such as messages and emails to help carry out requests.
Availability varies by device, language and region, and some features are scheduled for later release.
Together, the announcements offer several different paths for Apple customers this fall, from a $129 earbud upgrade to a nearly $2,000 folding phone. The new lineup’s everyday value will depend on how well its promised improvements hold up once the devices reach customers. ■
