Benjamin Logan High School Spanish teacher Nelly Andrade-Hughes has been named the recipient of the Leona Glenn Award for Outstanding High School World Language Educator by the Ohio World Language Association (OWLA).

She received the award at the OWLA Conference, where she was recognized for excellence in world language education and her commitment to student success. Andrade-Hughes was nominated by Teri Wiechart, OWLA Membership Chair and retired educator from Delphos Jefferson High School.

A native of Michoacán, Mexico, Andrade-Hughes has taught Spanish in Ohio since 2006 and joined Benjamin Logan in 2007. She is an accomplished presenter and author, sharing acquisition-driven instructional strategies at the local, state, and national levels. She also advises the BLHS Spanish Club and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.

Profa Hughes holds a master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature and teaches College Credit Plus courses through the University of Findlay. She is also a certified National Geographic Educator.

In addition, she was recently named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars, following a student nomination recognizing her dedication to excellence.
