HENRY

UPDATE as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6:

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department issued an official statement Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 6, regarding the arrest of a Bellefontaine City Schools teacher, Brice T. Henry, 33, which occurred the evening of Sunday, Oct. 4.

Henry’s original charge of importuning has been changed to attempted sexual conduct with a minor, based upon discussions with the Logan County Prosecutor's Office, Bellefontaine Police Chief Chris Marlow said in the release.

During the late evening of Sunday, Oct. 4, officers were dispatched to Love's Travel Stop, 2001 State Route 540, Bellefontaine, regarding a report of an adult male attempting to meet up with a 15-year-old young man.

Upon arrival, officers were met by several individuals who were the complainants and
witnesses to the allegations. The suspect was also present at the scene.

As officers investigated the matter, they found that an adult male, Brice Henry, had been engaged in a conversation through what was described as a dating app with an individual he believed was a 15-year-old male. That conversation led to Love's Travel Stop, officers said.

The investigation and evidence discovered at that time led to the arrest of Henry, who was interviewed and was lodged in the Logan County Jail at 2:31 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6. He was initially criminally charged with importuning.

Since that time, the investigation has continued and is ongoing with the cooperation and
advice of the Logan County Prosecutor's Office, Chief Marlow said.

Bellefontaine City Schools reports the district was informed Monday morning, Oct. 5, that a school staff member was arrested early that morning by the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Henry is a Bellefontaine High School vocal music teacher who is in his sixth year of employment with the district. He previously worked for West Liberty-Salem Schools.

“The alleged incident took place off school grounds and did not occur on school property,” BCS officials said in a release issued Monday. “However, we take these allegations with the utmost seriousness. The safety and well-being of our students, staff and school community remain our absolute highest priority.”

BCS officials said effective immediately, Henry was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal process, and all access to district facilities and systems has been revoked.

“Bellefontaine City Schools is cooperating fully with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation. Because this is an active criminal matter and a confidential personnel issue, the district cannot provide further details at this time,” district officials said.

“All inquiries regarding the criminal investigation should be directed to the Bellefontaine Police Department.”
