The Bellefontaine First Church of God is located at 1000 E. Brown Ave., Bellefontaine.

Sometimes the heartbeat of a church is found in the simple things; a hot meal for teenagers on a Wednesday night, groceries for a struggling family, or a safe place for someone trying to rebuild their life.

Drew Sutherin, Director of Next Gen Ministry at Bellefontaine Church of God, took time to speak about the church’s mission and the ways they are serving the community.

Bellefontaine Church of God exists so that all people can have a relationship with Jesus Christ. That mission shows up in practical ways throughout the week through ministries focused on serving both spiritual and physical needs.

One of those ministries is the church’s Wednesday night Next Gen Youth program led by “Mister Drew.” Open to middle school through high school students, the evenings include a meal, a short lesson, and time to simply have fun together. More importantly, it provides a safe and welcoming place for teens to connect and build relationships.

Drew spoke candidly about the challenges many young people face today.

“Consistency, authenticity, and service are what they need,” he shared. “I can’t say one thing and do another. Showing up is half the battle. So many of the young people that attend Next Gen just need someone to show up consistently.”

It is a simple idea, but one that clearly shapes the ministry at Bellefontaine Church of God, being present, being genuine, and meeting people where they are.

Wednesday evenings also include a prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m., while the church offers additional opportunities for connection through small groups and other ministries throughout the week.

The church also operates Hearts to Hands, a food pantry ministry that serves around 100 families each month. Open on the second Tuesday of every month, the ministry provides not only food, but also clothing, baby items, and other essentials for families in need.

In addition, Bellefontaine Church of God offers a recovery group ministry, continuing its focus on walking alongside people through difficult seasons of life.

Adult Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the church service at 10:30 a.m. They also are hosting VBS June 22 - 29, 9 am to noon.

Bellefontaine Church of God is also entering a new season of leadership. This month, Ben Liston will be ordained as Senior Pastor. Ben and his wife, Julia, have three daughters: Lydia, 11, Ava, 9, and Amelia, 6.

In a world where genuine connection can sometimes feel hard to find, Bellefontaine Church of God continues to quietly serve the community through compassion, consistency, and faith.

Visitors are welcome to attend services and learn more about the ministries offered throughout the week.
