COLUMBUS - A member of the Indian Lake High School Class of 2026 this week received a prestigious statewide award, which honors students who have overcome challenges, made education a priority and created a positive impact within their schools and communities.
Owen Kaser officially received the R.A. Horn Outstanding Student Achievement Award during a luncheon in Columbus. He was among 16 student honorees from around Ohio.
Owen didn’t let living with cerebral palsy slow him down. He was quite active during his high school career, participating in choir, show choir and other student activities at Indian Lake Schools.
“He is a fixture at nearly every sporting event, always supporting the Laker teams with a smile and encouraging words. Not to mention his academic success and constant positive attitude,” district officials noted.
Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood nominated Kaser for the award and he was made aware of his selection at the ILHS Academic Awards in May.
His mother, Morgan, and father Jeremy were elated about their son’s recognition and appreciative of the support he’s received at school. “Jeremy and I are especially grateful for Dr. Underwood and the meaningful relationship he and Owen have built over the years,” Morgan said.
“His nomination letter filled our hearts with pride and left us speechless. To see Owen recognized not only for his achievements, but for the person he is means more than words can express. “Knowing we are surrounded by leaders, educators and a community that loves, supports, and believes in our guy as much as we do is truly a gift. Today was a reminder that barriers can be broken, dreams can be achieved, and that one person can make a lasting difference.”
