Margot Reser, the 7-year-old daughter of Bellefontaine councilmember Jordan Reser, had the privilege of being the first youngster to test out the tower slide at the newly renovated Harmon Field. The rest of the community will be invited to explore what the space has to offer at the grand opening, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 11. (SHARYN KOPF | THE CHRONICLE)
The first thing you notice are the bright colors—striking blue and vivid orange against a backdrop of spring green. And, in a moment, you know children will love the remodeled park along west Sandusky Avenue between north Troy and north St. Paris streets in Bellefontaine for many years to come.
But then you’re hit with the bittersweet reality. Updating Harmon Field Park was a passion project of Kris Myers, who served as parks superintendent for over 20 years. When Myers died suddenly in December 2025, the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District board of trustees knew they had to keep Myers’ vision moving forward.
Now that the work is nearing completion — they’re planning a grand opening for Saturday, July 11 — the board wanted to make sure Myers’ contributions to Bellefontaine parks weren’t forgotten.
At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 2, Tammy Fowler, board vice president, had a proposal: rename it The Kristopher Myers Recreation Complex at Harmon Field. The trustees quickly and unanimously approved the change.
However at the June 9 Bellefontaine City Council meeting, the council unanimously passed the resolution with a slight name change to “Harmon Field, Home of the Kristopher Myers Recreation Complex.”
