If you want to know how much work goes into having children participate in the Logan County Fair, ask Abigail Roell. Abigail and her family have been involved in 4-H for three generations. Which means they live and breathe the fair for over a week every July.
“My kids have shown animals for six years,” Abigail said. “My husband and I both showed at our respective fairs through 4-H and FFA. And my dad also showed at Logan County.”
This year was especially meaningful as she watched her oldest age out of 4-H while her youngest is just getting started.
Calling herself “the presidential mom,” each of Abigail’s children is named after a former American president—three daughters: Hayes, 9; McKinley, 13; and Reagan, 16; and a son, Lincoln, 18.
Once again, the family had multiple livestock entries, so there’s a lot to do, even before the fair gets going. They start setting up their pens—which the kids build from the ground up—on Thursday and Friday nights before they move the animals in on Saturday, the first day of the fair.
